So, starting wage in The Feds is $0.13 per hour (Yes, thirteen cents; not a typo.) In what year was the thirteen cent minimum prison wage first set, and how much would that be today if it had adjusted for inflation?

So, starting wage in The Feds is $0.13 per hour (Yes, thirteen cents; not a typo.) In what year was the thirteen cent minimum prison wage first set, and how much would that be today if it had adjusted for inflation?

What would it take to have a change enacted that would update minimum prison wage with inflation, and retroactively so?

And how did you make it financially when you were in The Feds?

Came here to say this

It’s more if you’re on a fire crew.

Well, ya but easier. Just reform the 13th Amendment to exclude all forms of slavery, and the prison camps are closed. It's not as easy as it sounds, but that's the solution.

I was looking into this the other day. Some states have amended their laws to prevent slave labor in the form of the 13th amendment. Privatized prison system. It's crazy to think making someone a slave will "reform" them.

Wouldn’t even need to amend the constitution they could just outlaw it normally.

Hey idiot, you do realize these are prisoners right? Minimum wage doesn't apply when they are being fed and sheltered. Seriously, think before posting stupid shit!

See how you take pleasure in denigrating the group in general as if you have actually done them a favor by creating captivity? It exemplifies why corruption justifies a mandate of labor protection for the vulnerable party.

It's a practiced response to a question that already has a right answer.

What you fail to realizes that most of those people are going to get out of prison and have absolutely nothing and what do you think people with absolutely nothing do? It’s about setting people up for success rather than failure.

It’s almost as if the system wasn’t designed to rehabilitate criminals. Hm, weird the government is usually so benevolent and trustworthy.

[–]Separate_Proof_2729 1 point

Then they should not have committed a crime...see how that works? Take your bleeding heart elsewhere. You get what you earned.

Doesn’t negate the fact that these people are coming back into society and and I’d much rather have them prepared to enter it than to not be because they’re on a whole different level than you as far as what they’re willing to do so I’d rather that willingness be a positive thing

I think they technically pay minimum but then take stuff out of the pay to cover housing, food and etc. They do the same to people working for the companies that employ mentally handicapped people to cover the workers they need to supervise and provide support. All their food and bills are covered by the group home so what they make goes mostly to whatever they want to spend it on but they do need to buy clothes and toiletries and etc.

Utterly false. The only money that comes out of your federal inmate commissary is $2.00 for wellness visits.

Idk about the feds myself but some states do it. They will put it to the side for your release or pay courts what you owe.

[–]mrsdex1 1 point

What state?

[–]Background_Ad_5796 2 points

Virginia does it at State Farm facilities

[–]mrsdex1 1 point

I'm gonna research. Each state has a different program with differences . Thanks for the knowledge!

[–]Background_Ad_5796 2 points

The farm facilities are the only ones I can speak to and it may be only because it’s a farm facility. I never heard about it at higher security facilities

[–]mrsdex1 1 point

Nah, this is prison camp slave labor. Taxpayers are taking your freedom so they have a duty to provide for your care. The camps just about your free labor.

[–]4RLM 2 points

It's actually 12 cents.

[–]Thin_Onion3826 1 point

In Florida it’s zero

[–]Thin_Onion3826 2 points

Some jobs pay $50 a month. 13th Amendment punishment clause forever!!!

[–]AMC879 1 point

Are you forced to work? I would choose not to at that rate

[–]4RLM 3 points

Yes. If you are mentally and physically able, you are required to work. Refusal leads to disciplinary action.

[–][deleted] 1 point

Like what do they beat you or something? The prison system is barbaric

[–]4RLM 1 point

Usually time in segregation, but can go up to loss of good time.

[–][deleted] 1 point

Ah I see

[–]No_Concentrate_7111 -2 points

Maybe...don't do crime? Simple solution really

[–]GroundbreakingBed450 3 points

So simple wow I wonder how the millions of ppl in the jails throughout history haven’t thought of that! So easy

[–][deleted] 1 point

Genius observation

[–]mrsdex1 2 points

Prison slave camps. That's what they are.

[–]ToastiestMouse 1 point

In NC you don’t have to work at all. Unless you had court ordered classes you could spend your whole stint sitting on your ass.

I knew people who never worked a day in decades.
