Yeah, I'm not plugging my phone into that, thanks.

I would not trust that

Ambiguous metal box with USB ports is begging for someone to take advantage.

Homeless mans retirement plan

Sadly it'll quickly have gum shoved into the hole or the pins broken and become unusable.

Out of curiosity, how old are you? Ballpark.

Not the post, just the comment regarding the idea that someone would have a legitimate reason to put gum in the USB ports. It struck me as coming from someone young enough to not have developed a cynicism about the world. I was asking to see if I was right is all.

Seems like it needs more anti-homeless design to be from the future. Do the solar panels power spikes that stab anyone trying to sleep on it or something?

This is about 10 years too late, phone batteries are awesome now.

Eeh not so awesome you don't need to top them up every now and then after battery intensive usage like video recording, gaming, etc. Having the option to charge up when you need to is great, even if that is at a park bench.

Phone batteries are the ones that are behind lol, everything from screens, hardware, thickness, bezels, speed, and especially fcking cameras are all getting so good were at a point where the upgrades are such slight improvements from generation to generation. Batteries on the other hand have stayed relatively the same for years. They perform and last as well as they need to. I think having more and more charge ports everywhere around us is a great thing. Yeah a park bench might be sketchy but hey why not. Someone might really need to charge their phone in an emergency idk

If it works why not neat idea :)

It's trivial to load malware into public USB ports like that. Once compromised, every device that connects to charge would be sifted for PII.

It’s likely that these USB ports don’t have the data pins available https://i.stack.imgur.com/skjGe.jpg.

Unless they did one of those capacitor USB destroyer, it would be good for portable battery.
