To all hiring managers of r/TacoBell: If a job applicant asks during an interview "Will Taco Bell be just as miserable to work at like how (their previous fast food employer) was?," How would you respond to that?

Will you bother to explain how their work experience will be different at your workplace?

Or will you say "Yes, so I'm afraid you may not be a fit for any fast-food establishments?"

Also, since those other fast-food establishments are your direct competitors, wouldn't you guys want to be better than them, at least when it comes to the working experience at your location?

I’ve always explained it as: 1. It’s fast food. It can be fast paced. 2. We understand that you’re not going to be fast or accurate right from the start. It’ll take time to develop the skills and knowledge. 3. We pay on time. Some places can’t say this. 4. Every job will have its moments of suck. Even the career jobs. 5. Communication is key. Let us know what’s going on so we can work around your schedule. 6. We try to have a more laid back atmosphere that most other places. Most managers are pretty chill about day to day goings on. It helps counter balance the stress of the job.

I never tried to play up the job to people. Never made promises and always been upfront. It’s not all sunshine and flowers and we know we wished we got paid more for the work involved.

Managers make the experience different. Fast food is fast food. Tacos, burgers, etc. the specifics change but the overall stays the same.
