To all hiring managers of r/SonicDriveIn: If a job applicant asks during an interview "Will Sonic Drive-In be just as miserable to work at like how (their previous fast food employer) was?," How would you respond to that?

 

To all hiring managers of r/SonicDriveIn: If a job applicant asks during an interview "Will Sonic Drive-In be just as miserable to work at like how (their previous fast food employer) was?," How would you respond to that?

Will you bother to explain how their work experience will be different at your workplace?

Or will you say "Yes, so I'm afraid you may not be a fit for any fast-food establishments?"

Also, since those other fast-food establishments are your direct competitors, wouldn't you guys want to be better than them, at least when it comes to the working experience at your location?

They bring out food on skates (or used to? Been a while.), there’s nothing professional about Sonic.

Having a person with no filter is great, if they only speak when they have something to say. I'm like that. My priorities are communication & guest experience. Everything follows after that. Cutting corners or favoring labor/profit too much hurts guest experience and ruins the brand (no matter where you go).

I let it known why we were losing guests. Costs are going up, yet value isn't. Sonic (corporate) wants to have so much food and things to compete with other brands. I get that, but that's so much inventory that we're sitting on and may not use.

Sonic needs to let franchises, or individual locations, go to a more tradition drive-in menu & cut back on everything else. Lessen the costs there to where labor is less of a factor and the guests get the experience that Sonic was once known for.

My location did the opposite with me, but likely because I already had prior sonic experience. I was working at a place that was only giving me 2 shifts a week, so I started at sonic again on the days I knew they’d never schedule me and the other place stopped scheduling me entirely with no communication (which is considered silent firing and can be illegal since it can be considered constructive discharge). Sonic saved me from missing important payments.
