Where are all of the major nuclear fallout shelters for the city of Wichita? (I know Russia will hit the McConnell AFB with an ICBM someday soon.)

Since I'm not afraid of death anymore due to the Quantum Immortality Theory, I'll not be afraid of moving to Wichita for better economic opportunities and an improvement to my income.

So thanks to Quantum Immortality, if I'm caught by a nuclear blast, I'll wake up from having had a nightmare of a nuclear strike in a parallel universe where said nuke strike didn't happen. I had already died of asthma attacks several times in my childhood when I'd get knocked out due to being unable to breathe and then waking up "from a nap" in a parallel universe hours later where and when I'd survived.

But if I get a Push notification on my phone saying a nuclear ICBM is headed to Wichita and will strike in t-n minutes, I'd still like to know how to get to the nearest fallout shelter and survive impact. That way, my day doesn't repeat like a nuclearly-induced version of Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray, or that X-Files episode where Mulder wakes up on a leaking waterbed 50 times in order to stop a bank robber's bomb from blowing up the whole bank.

So what are all of the known major fallout shelters in Sedgwick County? How many nuke escapees can they hold?

That’s enough Reddit for me today

Not today, ISIS!

Slim Pickens showed us the futility of worrying about it. Ride that mfr all the way down.

Great response, you made me chuckle. It amazes me that people (usually younger people) still get upset about nuclear war. I dealt with that existential threat back in 88 or so. I was 9 yrs old. If it happens there isn’t a damn thing I can do about it and neither can you so why worry.

To maximize payload, bombers take off with just enough fuel to get Airborne and get refueled. Tankers are vital to getting retaliatory ALCMs launched.

Hate to tell ya, but the only warning will be the fireball if you're far enough away.

This may be the best post in the history of this sub.

There have not been any public fallout shelters since the Cold War I don't think. The threat of a nuclear holocaust does not exist in any realistic way any more.

Everything after "don't worry about it" in your comment is severely untrue

Yea I just had that whole conversation with someone and don't know where I read the information at I know I looked at the size of blast capable from most modern day warheads and their fallout ranges but I'm obviously misremembering the rockets being too weak for it

In the event of nuclear exchange Wichita would receive two, maybe three, nuclear warheads. McConnell would be targeted, which would also destroy Spirit. Cessna would be targeted, which would also destroy the airport. This would prevent those aerospace manufacturers from shifting operations to produce military aircraft.

I estimate a third warhead would target north Wichita where the rail line junctions, grain elevators and chemical industries are. Wichita would be the highest priority target in Kansas.

I don’t think you understand how ICBMs work….

[–]AdElectrical3997 0 points

I've actually looked into nuclear icbms and the high payload warhead rockets needed to level a city or do enough damage to really matter weigh too much to be launched from russia or its allies and hit in the middle of the united states

[–]ParticularLab5828 0 points

Russia was making the engines that NASA used for decades. You don’t think they could redneck engineer a rocket to hit the other side of the planet?

[–]AdElectrical3997 0 points

According to experts on the subject no the weight of the warhead fuel and rocket doesn't make it possible for either side we both have to use subs to perform mutually assured destruction

Do you now how sending an object into orbit works? Once it’s up there all it needs is the correct path to renter the atmosphere. From there it’s just gravity and aerodynamics.

[–]AdElectrical3997 1 point

Thats fair I guess I was wrong on the matter I swear I read that russia didn't have the missles needed to reach further than the coast of the US

As for understanding how sending an object into space and inertia fed trajectory works I'm sure even an infant understands the concept
