Why did Mom tell me to stop recording her calls? How do you feel about your children recording your calls?

Why did Mom tell me to stop recording her calls? How do you feel about your children recording your calls?

I record everyone's by default but Mom had me put her cell number on a call recording exclusion list.

My memories of what is said on a call aren't always the best so it helps me recall by listening to prior recordings.

And it breaks my heart because I want to keep keepsakes and souvenirs of our previous calls so I can hear them again if she ever passes away. Hearing the dearly departed parents' voices again will cheer me up, so that's why I need for her calls to be recorded.

Anyways, that's why I'd like to call her on her house's landline more often than her smartphone because she hasn't told me to exclude her landline also.

You record everyone’s phone calls? Yeah, that’s weird.

No. This is not the way. If you want a keepsake of your mom’s voice ask her to leave you nice voicemails now and again. No one would be happy to know that you are recording their phone calls by default and you may, location dependent, be breaking the law by doing so.

People, your mother included, probably want to feel that they can talk to you and speak plainly without worrying a recording is being kept to do who knows what with it later. You’re saying it’s to help with your poor memory, but how do they know their voice isn’t going to be used for something nefarious. What if those recordings are compromised and taken?

This isn’t really a parenting issue - it’s a general issue. You should stop doing this.

Then why ask?

No. You don’t get to be weird in ways that bothers others just for fun.
