When you say "OK Bet" to someone who's not a Gen Z, how do you respond when they say "Bet on what?"

When you say "OK Bet" to someone who's not a Gen Z, how do you respond when they say "Bet on what?"

And how do you deal with situations where people from other Generations do not understand your Gen Z slang?

Explain it...

🎯🎯”To someone who’s not a Gen Z” isn’t even accurate .. “ok bet” has been around since the 80s at least, whenever black folks birthed hip hop so maybe even the 60s ..

If the person doesn’t understand that phrase, you had no business saying it to them in the first place if you didn’t intend to explain, they’re probably very old or so far out of the loop it’s noticeable.. 😂

Bet has never caused any issues, even with coworkers or bosses twenty-forty years my senior.

Gen X here… One of the great things of having two GenZ kids is I know 99.9% of y’all’s sayings and use them quite frequently🙂

explain it means understood or okay

No not "you betcha" lmao, it's a clipping of "you can bet on it" or "you bet" and has roots in aave.

"You betcha" is originating from the "bet on it" but it also originates from the Midwest.

I love american slang etymology. And suck

Betcha is a concatenation of 'bet you'. The first 'you' is to address the person.

Written out it's literally: You! Bet you.

The only thing GenZ added was the 'ok'. Millennials have been saying 'bet' for as long as I can remember.

Perhaps you used it wrong in context?
