Halo takes place in the 2550s, so why wasn't the Warthog self-driving? (Xpost: r/SelfDrivingCars)

Why wasn't travel in the Warthog just "(mark point on map as destination) and then 'Warthog, drive us to that destination?'" Why manual driving the old-fashioned way in the 26th century? Be like riding a horse & buggy from the 1600s, right?

I agree with point A though I do see some utility in it.

Point B I disagree with. Self driving vehicle are unfortunately the future and even more feasible in off-road scenarios with less people to hit and rules to abide by. If your self driving vehicle only has 3 rules to abide by 1) Arrive at point X, 2) Drive around obstacles, 3) Don't drive off of cliffs, then the self driving becomes real easy, even child's play considering the nature of AI in the HALO universe. Harvest was covered in self driving vehicles from Taxis to Combine Harvesters to crop sprayers all controlled by one planetary AI.

That was a tesla because it uses cameras. Older tesla and basically and half decent self driving car uses lidar/radar to detect objects and don't fail l this test.

If you watch the full test it's actually really interesting. Not only did the Tesla using cameras fail this test it also failed the detecting and object in fog test. People have been complaining about Tesla repla ing lidar with cameras for years. Cameras are obviously cheaper and can be used for other types of data gatherering that Musk can sell.
