What do you do with job applications and resumes that state "HOMELESS" as their address? Are they better off hiding their homeless status by borrowing the address of a shelter, church, friend's place, etc.?

What do you do with job applications and resumes that state "HOMELESS" as their address? Are they better off hiding their homeless status by borrowing the address of a shelter, church, friend's place, etc.?

You're the bridge security guard that allows or denies applicants the bridge to getting a home again. Do you deny homeless applicants just because they're homeless? Are they better off lying about their addresses?

Some could say, "If the world doesn't value my honesty enough to keep a roof over my head, I can rest assure you the world will not need my honesty anymore."

But do any of you give the homeless a chance at a job to get them back to having a roof again?

It's not a crime to be homeless, you know.

Many of us are just a few paychecks away from being one.

Legally speaking, it actually is illegal in most states in the US.

[–][deleted] 2 points

Bullshit. It might be illegal to camp wherever u want but that doesn't make it illegal to be homeless.

So you’re allowed to be homeless, as long as you make sure you’re still housed. Okay genius. Riveting take.

[–][deleted] 1 point

Thats not what I said.

[–]AllHailMooDeng 1 point

It’s what you said actually means, whether you thought that far or not.

[–][deleted] 1 point

Ok. So how is it illegal to be homeless?

[–]AllHailMooDeng 1 point

You’re being extremely dense, and I’m assuming purposely so I’m not going to humor you. Reread the thread if you must.

You cant back up your claim.

[–]Proof-Emergency-5441 0 points

It literally is in 48 of 50 states.

Show me one state's law that says it's illegal to be homeless. Straight from the state's website, not a woke article that twists the truth.

[–]Proof-Emergency-5441 1 point

Your use of woke says you aren't worth a continued conversation.

[–][deleted] 1 point

Your inability to back up the claim tells me the same thing

I don’t know if you mean this question literally or if you’re just trying to gauge the stigma from a social perspective.

The purpose of an address on a job app is to be able to, you know, contact you. They need to send tax and employment documents or laptops/equipment, depending on the job. Whether you live there or not isn’t their concern. They might flag a different address on a background check if you get a job offer, which is pretty easy to clear up. You could use a friend’s address (if that’s a reasonable option for you) and say you’re staying with them temporarily if you get a background check flag for it. Just make sure that person agrees to hand you your mail and isn’t shady or anything. Once you get a place with the money you make at the job, you can update the address in the employer’s records.

Social stigma varies. Some people would probably turn up their nose, and others would be more willing to want to help if you are otherwise qualified.

Generally they aren't any more or less motivated than any other individual. They are individuals with their own personalities, just like everyone else.

Espically for a min wage or up to 18 dollar an hour job. I'm sure they will work 10x harder than what's out there... unless there are actively using drugs and or alcohol, which could very much be a problem.

[–]sincitysos 1 point

If they get the job then they can now afford a P.O. Box. Remember most homeless people do have money just not enough to spend on housing.

[–][deleted] 1 point

One of the plights of homeless people is that the post office requires a valid address in order to sign up for a PO box, so they still need to use some sort of an organization's address or friend's house for that.

[–]sincitysos 1 point

Didn’t actually know that. Thank you.

[–]hellolovely1 3 points

I would assume this is more of an application.

[–]Medium_Custard_8017 2 points

Exactly. You'll still need to fill out an address for an I-9 employment form. You also have to "prove" your work eligibility such as by proving citizenship e.g. via a birth certificate and SSN card (a passport gives you only one document needed but first requires those first two be provided to the government plus a couple hundred dollars for the passport application. It can also takes months to get the passport in the mail).

Those are all hard to get and/or keep when someone has been homeless for a while. Robberies plus "street sweeps" can cause these items to be lost, taken, or destroyed.

[–]hellolovely1 1 point

ProPublica had a heartbreaking story about the stuff homeless people lost in sweeps.

You interview them if they are qualified. What are you, the Gestapo?!
