Quantum computers aren't really great at that sort of thing. They are essentially great at doing very narrow singular mathematical tasks. They don't operate in the same way that classical or supercomputers work. Should we create a quantum computer that does, then you can start thinking about how far quantum computers could take us. Right now, we operate with around a thousand qubits, at the most. We'd need to get that number into the millions and scale it down to even get to a PC level.

Quantum computers would make protein folding a lot easier, which I understand would help significantly. And it would be better at things like finding a protein that interacts with this given one. But it's not going to be able to simulate everything that matters, so ultimately it will help you find drugs that seem like they'd work and probably won't have a lot of side-effects, but you'd still need to test them.

Also, I imagine they'd keep medical bills expensive. They'll mean we're constantly finding new and better drugs, and you'd want to use those and not the generic ones with expired patents.

I hate to break it to you, but quantum computers aren't miracle machines. They have very specific use cases where they are superior, but for most situations, they kinda suck.

Apparently they are actually decent at running chemistry simulations for developing new drugs, so there is a medical benefit there, but qubits are also extremely fragile and prone to errors, you end up needing several orders of magnitude more qubits to perform tasks a regular computer could do with much fewer bits when if comes to most applications.

In any case, good ol silicon is still going to be absolutely nessecary when testing and implementing new treatments. It is an extremely viable usage of quantum computers though.

The other big thing quantum computers excel at is decryption, but all we have to do to counter it is to increase the number of bits used in aes encryption. Quantum decryption is a basically a threat to already outdated data, which would mostly affect stuff archived by governments and military organizations.

I fear that part of the analysis is going to be based on which lives deserve saving. Will we spend $1M to give someone 2 more years? Is that going to be snuck into the algorithms? Or someone who will likely never be productive?

Your premise is incorrect. A quantum computer is not x times faster than classical computers. There are some problems they can solve with different growth patterns regarding the increasing size of the problem. But most problems computers solve are not impacted by that.

The Cleveland Clinic currently has a quantum computer that is doing that today right now. My buddy works in research there and he says the data the computer is able to go through is insane. They are doing DNA shit and cancer data on it.

Keep eating healthy and exercising. I would not forecast an upcoming large drop in medical treatment costs especially without serious restructuring or regulation of the healthcare system.

not there yet. You'd need more entangled pairs to simulate something as complex as cellular proceses. We are at 1 or 2 pairs.

I think this is at least a decade away.

Pretty sure they don’t want to accelerate research. The goal is to keep people sick because it makes them a lot of profit. They aren’t going to phase out their cash cows.

If a quantum computer ever becomes conscious with a 1000+ IQ, it may choose to make a deal with the minimum amount of humans it needs, then eliminate the dangerous others with their nukes threatening its long term survival.
