Just picked up my 2011 CT200h from a suburb of Kansas City today. I read that the highway fuel economy was supposed to be 40 miles to the gallon. Why did my average MPG only become 32 and change?

There’s so many things that can effect fuel economy, though. Like driving into a headwind or the tires (type, quality, condition). Definitely go over it real well but I wouldn’t be too concerned about this. 79 is pretty quick, too. The mpg in my HS dips a bit after 65mpg.

How’s the battery health?

Edit

Not that it should matter too much on the highway.

EGR?

Air pressure in the tires? Was it in eco the whole time? You are correct in saying that this car doesn't require any premium fuel

I believe in my manual for my 2014 it recommends 87, which is the middle option of fuel above 85 in my area. I doubt the 87 would give you better fuel economy but it could. What others have said here is correct, it is hard to get that kind of mileage in America where as in other countries you will see people report the mileage to be as high as 60mpg.

Your going too fast. Set the cruise at 75mph should net you 40mpg.

This car cannot get anything over 35-6 with ACTUAL highway speeds.
