To the formerly homeless: How did you convince your next employer to give you a chance to pull yourself out of that hole despite not having an address to fill out on the job application / resume?
How did they react at the fact that you didn't have your own address to put down on your application and resume? How did you get them to overlook this well enough to still offer you the job?
Also, how did you dress to the interview? If you dressed well, where did you get those clothes and how did they stay in good condition without a closet to put them in?
What was your body odor like? If none, where did you shower before the interview? Did you put on any fragrances? Any scented deodorants? (Otherwise, how did you get them to overlook your body odor?)
How much did you hustle at your new job to save up for your next place? And how did you get the next property managers to overlook your credit (if they did credit checks and yours wasn't the best) and what were your references like? (Or how did they overlook the lack thereof?)
What hoops did you jump through to get a job and then a home to deliver you from your homelessness?
And what was transportation like to get to your job?
I'm going to check real quick to see whether there's a r/FormerlyHomeless subreddit. If there's not, can someone experienced in modding subreddits please create it? Make it our newest sibling-sub! Or our newest child-sub.
Edit 1: r/FormerlyHomeless doesn't currently exist, but those here who could really learn how to pull themselves out of homelessness could definitely benefit from the stories that will be told there on how they managed to get stable again. I don't have much in terms of moderation and subreddit design skills, otherwise I'd start it myself, so can someone else here please start it for us?
