"No, I don't have any previous hotel work experience, but hey, everybody's gotta start somewhere." When turning in an application at Super 8 in Concordia, KS in 2014.

How would that response come across on a hotel manager?

How does one get the needed previous hotel experience in the first place when even a bargain motel like Super 8 evidently requires prior hoteling experience?

She took my application, put it in a cabinet, and I never heard from her again.

I'm still waiting on a call for an interview, after turning in the application around June 2014. I'd have to tell them to transfer the application to the location of my current city as I hadn't lived in Concordia in over 10 years.

My preferred positions are front desk, monitoring security cameras, responding to online reviews and inquiries, updating the facilities' social media pages, and shuttle-driving guests to and from the hotel.

So what are some great ways to get my foot further in the door with the next motel or hotel that I apply to?

I'm more confused on why they are stuck on something that happened in 2014?

I got ghosted by a larger hotel group after 2 good interviews and they asked to schedule a time to come into the office for the third the next week.

They never got back to me until I reached out and said the position was filled. This was last year though.

I got hired at a mid tier with no experice. The took a chance on me and have been now working in the industry for about 5 years. Go to higher tiers like laquinta hilton or holiday inn they will give you the training you need. Usually they are always needing help at the desk. people quit or dont show or needs time off. dont give up try a different brand. and no its not that hard its more so dealing with bs of the guests at times as well as cowokers who dont listen.

Are you trying for management, with no hotel experience? Do you have any management experience? Or lots of customer service experience?

You would apply for a front desk agent position to get your foot in the door. Checking guests in and out, delivering to rooms, dealing with complaints, making reservations.

No one just watches security cameras, or only responds to reviews. That is built into positions, as it does not take up very much time.

If you don't like dealing with people, or come across as being entitled to everything, you probably won't get far in the service industry. I don't really like people, but I enjoy taking care of people and making their day, and that is the core of hotel life.

I have since gained experience operating a point of sale machine, and have very extensive customer service experience, having made over 20,000 deliveries on doordash alone, and I have also lasted over 5 years on my current job with doordash, so hopefully the next time I apply to a hotel, all of those facts will help me get my foot further in the door.
