r/Toyota - Why is this downmarket Toyota (AKA a Scion) called a "TURD" with a dropped U? Self-deprecating much?

The t(u)rd-mobile is a downmarket Toyota called a Scion. Why would it be called a turd in the first place, and why do they drop the u? Why does a car insult itself with a scatological word this way?

Scion is not a down market toyota. Just a different class. Look at the fr-s for example, it has a new generation as the toyota 86. And the scion tc (the one in question) shares many of its components with the camry of it's generation. And TRD stands for Toyota Racing Development. Not sure if this is ragebait or karma farming but this post is kinda cringe tbr

The car itself is a Toyota Zelas.

Scion was just marketing like Lexus. The goal was to try and attract younger buyers. Unlike Lexus, Scion was unsuccessful at obtaining the goal of capturing the demographic, with many elderly people buying the xA and xB for the ease of entry, higher than Corolla seating position and good visibility.
