[Trek universe] Will Chekov be replaced with a Ukrainian character in solidarity and support of the Ukrainian people due to the current war with Russia?

And just in time for a time-traveling remake film of IV: The Journey Home? And that film will return the crew to present-day Earth, right?

What are they doing to replace the Chekov character? Hopefully the replacement will be someone Ukrainian in support of Ukraine.

Hi there. This subreddit is for Watsonian questions and answers to fictional universes, that is to say questions and answers based on the in-universe information, rules, and logic of the fictional work. Your question is about casting decisions, which is not Watsonian, therefore I need to remove it.

How does removing an existing character do anything for Ukraine.

First of all, this is an inherently Doylist question that doesn't really belong here.

Second, I should hope Chekhov isn't replaced. The whole point of his inclusion, at the height of the Cold War, was to reinforce the show's themes of humanity coming together as one, in disregard of the tribalism and nationalism that hold us back.

Changing Chekhov's nationality would be a betrayal of that vision, of Star Trek's inherent optimism.

What I meant is, I hope they don't replace the nationality or character of Chekhov, because a Chekhov who isn't Russian fundamentally is not Chekov at all.

I don't think they'll replace Chekov. It's the Kelvin-Verse and the timeline had already clearly changed.

New character, or an existing one from the TOS series take over.

Saavik maybe?
