My old youth account "LookAtUNow" was frozen in 2003 because I ran a contest on the NeoBoards promising users they'd win 2 codestones if they guessed the Spanish word for "here" (which was "aquí.") Why were user-run contests not allowed back then?

Question

And are they still not allowed nowadays?

I was pretty young that many years ago so I kinda didn't know any better.

So what was TNT afraid of when they would observe contests that users ran on the Neoboards? Are they still afraid of them in the same way today?

My guess? TNT does not want to be responsible for any fallout as a result of the contest. Mainly, let’s say that the prize is a rare item. Someone wins the prize but ohp! They were never rewarded it! Or communications fell apart. Something something drama ensues between the contest holder and the winner.

It’s something that TNT can’t control, as it was not an admin facillitated contest, it’s just a social problem between two users.

Now in 2025, we have items that involves REAL money, that has people’s CC #s and real information attatched to. The last thing TNT needs is to be involved in a civil suit over essentially a bad trade they had no part in.

a civil suit lmao very appropriate albeit hilarious verbiage. i think this is spot on. they have enough on their plates without needing Judge JubJubby on the case

they're still not allowed on the neoboards but you can run them here in the unofficial sub. i imagine it's partly to avoid scam giveaways, drama and reports, and also bc tnt has said in editorials before that they believe in hard work and not handouts (paraphrasing).

edit: i have heard of some users getting unfrozen since it's been over a decade. you could try to appeal gl

The 'hard work' stance gets funnier and funnier as they keep releasing NP items to premium, and other in-game boosts via NC cookies....

Just let us do normal FFQ giveaways, damnit, not this weird "it has to be a new pet the receiver didn't already have to give away" thing

I got unfrozen.... but my main account which the freeze was initially on is gone gone gone. They deleted it, searching my username yields nothing. But I got my second account back, and somehow a 3rd account I never really went on (like I haven't logged into it since 2003 probably lol, I only made it to annoy my friend). I wasn't even scamming or anything, I was in uni and I was trying to collect neggs and was using two accounts and got lazy about not logging them in from the same location/ computer. Like I only used my main on my PC at home and my secondary on my laptop at campus, anyway I got busted and lost them. When I emailed about how I was sorry and I would never do it again they got mad at me cuz the info on my account didn't match up with real life lol and I'm like my dudes I was 12 when I made the account, my parents told me to put a fake birthday and a fake name for my protection and they were like wow okay banned forever. But yah long story short they are unfreezing accounts! haha
