How will Windows laptops made in 2025 be better than Windows laptops made in 2015?
My current laptop is a 2015 HP TouchSmart 15 running Windows 10, with 8GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD I obtained around 2019 for ~$120.
My Dad got me the laptop from Sam's Club for $600 in May 2015.
I'd like to purchase my own replacement laptop later this year, with a budget of ~$2,500.
Should I get another HP? My current HP has never had any significant hardware or software failures.
Or is there a more durable brand of laptop than an HP?
I'd like a gaming laptop that plays recent games on max settings smoothly, and can play older games too, because I'm nostalgic for older games as well.
I'd like a long hardware and software warranty as well.
So what gaming laptops made this year would you recommend within that price range, and how will they be better than my current 2015 HP laptop? Thanks in advance.
Hard no on HP. They are all about making disposable laptops you can't even buy a replacement battery for, or if you can it will be an arm and a leg expensive to buy it.
Common computer repair shop knowledge is that a Lenovo business machine is a better long term buy.
Hp is absolute trash
My 2015 TouchSmart 15 still works though, so how does it constitute being trash?
Because HP was decent until they started making disposable laptops
Definite no for HP, even their business laptops have hinge problems.
Look into Lenovo.
I second that. While my 4-year-old Pavilion Gaming 15 is still great, my wife's ProBook x360 435 G8 (from the same year) has an annoying hinge issue (the anchor point for the left hinge has broken off the casing). And it's a professional laptop.
Maybe they will finally solve this: https://www.reddit.com/r/laptops/comments/1hkno3n/its_almost_2025_already_why_still_cant_windows/
Hah, who am I kidding. I'm sure Microsoft is more interested in spending engineering resources on pushing ads to and spying on you through Windows than actually fix something for users.
The thing about "HP" is that they're not a singular entity - they have a wide range of sub-brands, some built to be "powerful", some built only to be cheap. As I understand it their Omen gaming laptops are decent. If you want to play recent games on max settings you're talking quite a lot of money, most of which will go to Nvidia for their GPU as opposed to HP directly.
Hp ain’t what it used to be. For a premium gaming laptop, 2025 is an exiting year with rtx 50 card, motion less fans and silicon batteries(last one is kinda cope)
Idk man, can't really go wrong with HP. They make some of the most reliable laptops out there, both consumer & business grade. Go with the Victus
Not in a long time man, not in a long time...
Hp isnt the Hp it was in 2015 check the Hp forums and you'll see
I don't feel like visiting forums outside of Reddit, so what's their TL;DR summary?

Let's start with hardware from 2015.
Dell Insipiron 7559
i5-6300HQ, 960M 4GB VRAM, 8GB RAM, 1TB HD, FHD display, 5.66 lbs.
Dell Insipiron 7640
Intel Core ultra 7 155H, Nvidia 4060 8 GB VRAM, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, QHD display. 4.94 lbs.
Things that have improved:
# of cores and threads we went from 4cores 8threads to CPUs with 16 cores / 32threads or more.
Minimum RAM requirements have moved up from 8GB to 16GB. Personally I would spec 32GB RAM.
Storage requirements have moved up. Mechanical HDs have given way to PCIE based SSDs. A M2 2280 SSD can now store 4TB+ and require about half the volume of a 2.5" SSD.
Displays quality and panels sizes have gone up / shrunk. What used to require thick bezels have gone to thin bezels and better displays that are 4K or QHD based with better panels such as OLED.
Laptop weight has gone down due to improvements in shrinking down hardware.
While due to bureaucratic requirements of the FAA have pushed laptops to support alternative charging sources such as USB-C PD to provide power.
You want a gaming laptop that plays recent games on max settings smoothly. Go ahead and to do it on your 2015 laptop. If you can then laptops made in 2025 will not be any better than laptops made in 2015.
Laptop with 4k screen, mini led, 240 or 480 Hz slowly taking a place. Its much better that fullhd made in 2015.
If you want the best bang for your buck i reccomend you throw that brand loyalty out the door open up your mind to other brands narrow down what you want and do extensive research on it
