Why did my mother order me to take this down? It's only a Ballad about a felon and the mistakes he made, so that it serves as a cautionary tale for what not to do with our lives.

I think I'll take it down if she agrees to help me pay a portion of my student loans.

(Doesn't accrue interest anymore, as they've been modified due to a successful TPD application, so helping me pay it off wouldn't be futile by any means. 100% of the payments would go to principal.)

What do you think of this proposition that I haven't given to Mom yet?

For my own understanding - how old are you? And did you ask her directly why she wants you to take it down?

I Googled this man and the only things that came up were two news articles on him that were relatively light on details, the usual property records etc, and a handful of posts from you. I see two issues with this.

First, he's not a public figure. He's just some guy. I've been featured in news articles - not for criminal reasons, but many many years ago when the paper wanted to write puff pieces about high schoolers in clubs that did volunteer work - and if someone used those as a basis to write a song about me without me knowing, I would have been super creeped out. It's kind of over the line.

Secondly, if he's potentially violent and sitting on a high-but-achievable bail - guess what, you might be next.

I agree with your mom.
