"Daddy Is A Dirtbag" will be a contrafactum (like a "parody," but without humorous effect) of HITTG.
What inspired me to someday write and record this contrafactum was when I watched an episode of "Law & Order: Organized Crime" when Detective Stabler (back then undercover as Eddie Wagner) was briefed about the original Eddie Wagner's son having been beaten by the father that Stabler was trying to emulate and assume the identity of, so his son went to the hospital at age 6 due to injuries sustained from being abused by his violent dad. Then the son was put into foster care, who then became homeless as soon as he aged out of the foster system at 18. As soon as someone on-screen said "So Daddy Is A Dirtbag," the song HITTG by CCR started playing in my head, and I knew immediately that I had to someday write and record that song.
Would you assume I made that song about you if you heard it for the first time, if I were your son? If so, how would you react to me and the song?
DIAD is planned contrafactum #938, as seen on this list of planned parodies / contrafacta: https://www.reddit.com/r/plans/comments/l1580k/the_son_of_way_songwriting_plans_parodies_filk/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
And mothers, what if you listened to DIAD before your husbands did, and you happened to have a son who penned and recorded that song? And what if you listened to it together with your husbands?
