Pharmacy worker: "I can tell from all the way over here, that you are NOT the age for the shingles vaccine." Me: "Well then, what IS the age for the shingles vaccine?" Pharmacy worker: "50 and above!" So why does 50 need to be the minimum age for a shingles vaccine?

I don't like to procrastinate as often as I used to back in my college years, so I would like to get all vaccines out of the way. So why must I wait until 50 to get a shingles vaccine?

By the way, is that only a Dillons Pharmacy policy or is that the policy of all pharmacies across America?

Moreover, how did he know I wasn't a 50-or-above gentlemen who had plastic surgery to look younger? Can older gentlemen who have had plastic surgery to look younger, be told apart from genuinely younger gentleman?

The vaccine is only tested and approved for people 50 and up.

Only FDA approved for 50 and above. It’s a Nationwide thing.

Ask your doctor to write you a prescription. You will probably have to pay out of pocket, but small price to pay to not get shingles.

Ask a different doc.  So many people are getting shingles before 50. I got it at 43 and my sister in her 30s. Stress can do it,  and stress knows no age.

They used to emphatically tell me that I couldn't get the vax. Then when I got shingles they (different docs) told me I could have been vaccinated

Count yourself lucky, in my country it’s 65 yo.

Usually you can tell when people had plastic surgery yes? She was trying to compliment you I think. If you actually were 50 or older, that’s easily cleared up if needed

Under 50, some insurance plans won't pay for it. I paid $300 for each of the two shots needed a few years ago. Of course , 6 mths later BCBS started covering it on my plan. Cost prevents a lot of people getting it done for 50. After 20 yrs of 1-2 outbreaks a year I was ready.

If your doctor sends over a script then anyone in the pharmacy needs to keep their mouth shut. They should happily give you the shot.

You can get it under 50 if you are immunocompromised.

It was my understanding that one needed to have chicken pox first. If one has not had chickenpox it was impossible to get shingles.

You can get shingles if you’ve received the chickenpox vaccine.

I’m 30, recently diagnosed with shingles. When picking up my antivirals the pharmacist recommended talking to my doctor about the shingles vaccine once my case clears up.
