I was told that when you request a refund, you're NOT required to return the item??? Is that true? You DO know how that opens up the potential for a TON of abuse, right? (Xpost: r/Temu)

Issues & Disputes

The abusive buyer would just conveniently get a free item by submitting a refund request every time their item arrives to their location, no matter whether they intend to keep the item or not. AliExpress and Temu would stand to lose a butt-ton of revenue that way. You know that, right?

How are those companies adapting to that abusive cheating tactic? Or do they just take that form of refund cheating lying down and continue to keep losing revenue to those refund cheaters?

Not true, maybe occasionally, who told you that? Also AE and Temu are not the same, what one are you asking about

This couldn't be further from the truth.

Certain low cost items they might refund and let you keep because it costs them more to process a return.

Most everything else will require a return.

Regardless, what is your concern if this gets abused or not? Are you a Chinese seller?

I've had this happen with items under $5 that were damaged, but I think it is just for the first 5 items per month. Also there is something about your account needing to be in good standing.

My wife has had several issues with cheap items, <$5. Where she did not get what she orderd and so long as she clearly shows pics of what she ordered vs what she got, they will just refund instead of ask for a return.

I had a lepin brick set that was about $90, it arrived with the package damaged and some of the contents missing, the manual and baseplate first and foremost. I sent them images of what the package looked like when it got here and they offered for me to return the item or take a partial refund, they offered $30 refund so I went with that instead of having to deal with return shipping to china.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It’s so unreliable that a scammer wouldn’t rely on it, because there’s a high risk of getting no refund if you are required to send something back - a lot of times sellers say they never received and and just don’t issue a refund.

Amazon, on the other hand, has online customer service reps that can often be talked into letting you keep the item after refund if you know what to say to them.
