Will Chekov be replaced with a Ukrainian character in solidarity and support of the Ukrainian people due to the current war with Russia?

And just in time for a time-traveling remake film of IV: The Journey Home? And that film will return the crew to present-day Earth, right?

What are they doing to replace the Chekov character? Hopefully the replacement will be someone Ukrainian in support of Ukraine.

I think the war with Russia will be long over before Paramount figures out how to cast another Star Trek movie with the TOS characters.

That said, I would not mind at all a Ukrainian Chekov.

The point of the Chekov character in the original series was deliberately to show an enemy of current-day USA working cooperatively with fellow humans in the future.

In those days, the enemy was the U.S.S.R. These days, the enemy is the Russian Federation. Either way, Chekov still represents a current enemy become a future friend.

The same thought process led to Roddenberry putting a Japanese man on the bridge of the original Enterprise and a Klingon on the bridge of the Enterprise-D: former enemies become future allies.

That's the message of Star Trek: that all people should be able to resolve their current differences and work toward a future of friendship.

Anyway, it's not like we need a new character. We've had different actors playing the same character a few times in Star Trek. For example, the famous character of Spock has been played by three main actors so far (plus a child voice actor in TAS, and a couple of child & teenage actors in 'The Search for Spock'). There's no reason that Chekov can't be played by a third actor.

Are they going to find Anton Yelchin's doppelganger or will they put a mask of Yelchin's face over the new actor's?

They'll probably do the same thing to Chekov's new actor that they did to Zachary Quinto and Ethan Peck, when they made those two look exactly like Leonard Nimoy.

It's more likely they'll have a CGI Arex replace him, though nothing says he can't have been raised in Ukraine
