See these cars bounce and tilt?:

Why do I never see that in real life now in the 2020s? And on newer cars than those 6-4 Impalas?

Watched a short documentary on the Japan low rider scene. I think they go more cholo than the actual cholo’s

The American cholos have nothing but good things to say about the Japanese, because they are honoring the traditions. Japanese car culture is insane, I highly recommened looking at the bosozoku motorcycle/car scene. It's crazy cool.

Not sure if it's still there, but the low rider exhibit at the Peterson Auto Museum was pretty cool. I went last year in August.

This is the number one reason. Newer cars without a full frame can’t handle hydraulics and the ones with full frames (trucks and large SUVs) weight too much to be bouncing that frame. Airbags are the more popular choice these days cause they ride smoother and are less likely to break stuff outside of suspension and axles (when’s going side to side or 3 wheeling it).

not to mention deployment of protective airbags in new cars, can you imagine that shit show? One of favourite vehicles was a 2000 montana van loaded with captain seats etc with rear end air bag suspension. That thing handled almost as well my 04 A4! too bad it was only a 1 year lease :(

Car culture varies state to state, also people are poor now

And cash for clunkers cleared a lot of the starter cars off the streets. Most of them have been turned into a small cube and recycled by now.

Funny how overpaying and destroying a resource for the poor in no way helped the poor

Low Rider culture is very hispanic. That's why you don't see them in Kansas. Kansas isn't booming with it's long-standing hispanic culture.

There are a lot of Hispanics in western Kansas. But, they're like every other ethnicity that lives in podunk western Kansas towns. Too poor to spend money on flashy shit.

I worked for many years in my grandparents’ then parents’ hydraulic shop in Albuquerque, New Mexico. No offense intended, but here’s what the lowrider guys had to say about air ride, “bags are for fags.”

You hang out with some haters.

Low and slow baby

While low riders aren't super common in middle America, almost every high end suv (Rover, Audi, Mercedes, Volvo, BMW, Lexus even Ford and Ram) and most Semi trucks and busses ride on the same technology (air bags).
