Like how Canine Parkinson's is Barkinson's, Canine Autism is Pawtism, and Canine Attention Deficit Disorder is Attention Dogficit Disorder?

Not sure if this is a serious question but here's a go at an answer.

First of all, the "pun" names are not official, it's just a cutesy thing people do with dog ailments. Dog diabetes is still just diabetes.

Dogs don't get Alzheimer's, but they can get dementia. At least, we have no evidence of a dog having actual Alzheimer's. Doggy dementia can mimic a lot of the symptoms of human dementia:

Confusion

Mood swings

Loss of appetite

Loss of bowel control

Anxiety

Restlessness

Sundowning

Those are just a few.

This was going to be my answer, my dog had doggy dementia for the last 2 years of his life. He was sundowning and would constantly pace in the middle of the night.

I've got an elderly dog with it right now.

I’m so sorry. It’s hard with people and with pets. My mom currently has Alzheimer’s and my dog passed away about 3 years ago, he made it to almost 15 years old.

My dog used to sleep in my bed since he was a puppy but sadly once he started sundowning and became incontinent I couldn’t let him sleep in my bed anymore. He didn’t seem to mind but I was sad to not have him snoring next to me.

Hilariously, both my father and my dog have dementia and get up at around the same time at night to wander around, so Dad will usually let the pup out then. I still set an alarm for 2am to make sure she doesn't have an accident inside and help him get back to bed.

I think you're getting downvoted into oblivion because of your flippant attitude- this sub is very serious and some people might find your approach offensive. Just fyi.

We have a cat at our shelter with dementia. She gets lost easily, and if we change her routine, she screams and paces.
